China’s top women’s singles figure skater Li happy to strive for pairs Source: The year-old national champion of women’s singles, who finished in 22nd place in PyeongChang Olympic Games, watched the training of the national gymnastics team together with other 17 skaters Saturday morning as a part of the new squad’s lesson to open the new Olympic circle. Through learning, Li said, she was able to better carry out the combination of different movements and better improve the level of her action in pairs. Li, who was named in the recently released national team roster not only as a singles but a pairs skater, took part in the national pairs team’s massive training session last April in Sanya, South China to start her “double play” on both events. The Heilongjiang native were placed 14th in the world championships, which earned China a berth of women’s singles to the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Facing the problem of distribution of time and energy, Li, who’s been praised by a senior official of China’s sports for her spirit of fighting and challenging herself, said most of her time and energy is now on pair skating and she has less time to practice in women’s singles. As for her next goals and expectations, Li said:

Television writers have been fascinated with the Goth archetype, and considered them as side characters and dark comic reliefs in their shows. However, Goths are portrayed as stereotypes, and sometimes, the borderline between Goth, emo, metal and punkrock becomes thin. They become instant fan favorites, and appear again in the series. In PyeongChang, she finally realized her Olympic dream of winning gold. Together with partner Bruno Massot, Savchenko, who skates for Germany, was in fourth place after the short program. But she and Massot were the only couple among the top three to skate a clean free program, which vaulted them to the top of the podium. Their scores were the highest ever recorded for the pairs long program and it was enough for gold. After earning two bronze medals at previous Olympics with another partner, Savchenko said of her first, long-awaited gold: She deserved this gold medal.
The Canadians Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford felt redeemed by their bronze, since they finished in seventh place four years ago in Sochi. Duhamel and Radford also have the distinction of making history — they are the first pair to complete a quadruple throw jump at the Olympics.

When you say Rudy wasnt a perfect match for Kristi, what do you mean, and what would be an example of the type of male pairs skater who would be. Was it the lack of physical size and upper body strength by him compared to some of the other male pairs skaters like Eisler, Grinkov, or Dmitrev that would allow them to do bigger twists, throws, and harder lifts.
Since Kristi is not big, even for a pairs skater, but he wasnt one of the bigger male pair partners. Or was it also because he was gay, and it would be nearly impossible to create a romantic or overly dramatic style together on the ice as the Russians do, as it would be impossible to even create a guise of love or tension between them. The only thing I would take into account in regards to Rudy being gay was that he has said repeatedly that he felt that USFS was never a big supporter of his because of his sexuality and the fact that he was quite open about being gay, even though he was never officially “out” while he was skating pairs.
Perhaps this affected their pairs marks as well – no one can really know the truth about that. I don’t think his sexuality would have completely precluded them from adopting a more romantic or dramatic style – there have been several gay pairs and ice dance partners who have managed to convincingly pull off romantic or dramatic themes with their on-ice partners. My thoughts on Kristi’s “perfect match” were more along the lines of a partner who whose style, size, etc.
If you watch her skate pairs as a professional skater in her later SOI years with Denis Petrov, you can see how she might have looked with a taller partner with more elegant lines and the ability to really showcase Kristi to her best advantage. Eric Radford comes to mind as a tall pairs partner who can land difficult SBS jumps, but again, he was also a singles skater at a high level for quite some time before devoting himself fully to pairs.

Figure skating has a long, sometimes-controversial history as one of the most-watched Olympic sports. Who doesn’t remember the Tonya Harding—Nancy Kerrigan scandal? And the drama continues: Although there’s no official rule that says the skating federation has to base the Olympic team roster solely on the results of Nationals, it’s true that Nationals usually does determine who goes to the Olympics.
If you’ve been watching the Olympics, you probably have an opinion on whether or not Canadian skaters Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue are getting it on off the ice. The gold medallists have set the.
This year, ice dancing features some of the most competitive story lines of the games, featuring an intense battle for the gold between two revolutionary teams and a three-way duel for bronze by American teams with distinctly differing styles. Ice dance is sometimes maligned by the casual viewer as a tamer version of pairs skating.
But ice dance is its own distinct challenge, a study of edges and angles. If you watch the sport only once every four years, try to ignore the sequins and sparkle. The best ice dancers skate close to one another on deep edges, made noticeable by how much they lean their bodies. They employ deep but fluid knee bends to generate speed and spend more time skating with all four of their arms connected, in a dance hold, as opposed to just two, known as an open hold. At some point during the program, every team must perform the same rhumba pattern.
For a lot of the programs, the pattern will be easy to tell because it occurs when the music slows down. Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir should look familiar: Their fluid, refined style won them the gold medal in and the silver medal in
